| Maternity figure - Luguru (?) Kwere (?) Tanzania |
| 25 x 8 3/4 x 7 inches It's so hard to place attributions on figures from Tanzania sometimes. I looked through all of my books on Tanzanian art and came up with an attribution of "Luguru" based on the hairstyle of this figure. It fell in line with many figures in the books that were attributed to the Luguru. The Luguru are neighbors of the Zaramo and the Kwere, and there were a few figures attributed to the Kwere that were also similar. I have no collection history on this figure. It came from the estate of Jean-Pierre Hallet which is where most of my Tanzanian maternity figures came from. |
